Dr Jayant Bahadur Singh, an educationist and visionary, is the Founder President of the Lal Chandra Bahadur Educational Society, and the Royal Kids' Convent, Rajnandgaon (CG).

Born to Lal Shankar Bahadur Singh and Smt Annapurna Devi at Khairagarh on 29th June 1953, he founded the school on 29th of June 1984. He completed his ISC, Senior Cambridge from Cambridge University, England in 1969 from Rajkumar College, Raipur, a premier and leading Public School of the country. He graduated in Science from the University of Allahabad, and completed MSc Mathematics and LLB from Pt Ravishankar Shukla University, from Digvijay College, Rajnandgaon. He did his MA in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaelogy from Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University. He was awarded an Honorary D Litt from International University, Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2014.

Dr Jayant Bahadur Singh joined Rajkumar College as a teacher in February 1978; became a House Master in 1980; was promoted as the Bursar in 1987; and was appointed as the Principal in 1995. He served the institution devotedly and made the Rajkumar College achieve great heights during his tenure. As Principal, he was an Executive Member of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for many years. He was an Executive Member of the Indian Public Schools’ Conference. He was the Vice President of the Indian Independent Schools Federation of India, and the Executive committee member of the Association of ICSE Schools Chhattisgarh-Odisha.

A versatile multidimensional personality, blessed with a sharp intellect and a humanitarian approach to life, he won many accolades in sports, debate, quiz and drama competitions.

As the Principal of one of the most prestigious public schools of the country, he was the sole representative from India to attend the World Conference on Education in Ukraine in 1996, and he was appointed as the Education Ambassador. He visited England as the manager of the Indian Public Schools Cricket Team which played friendly matches with the Public Schools in England at the famous Lord’s Stadium in 1989.

In 1976 he received the prestigious award Gyanshree for intelligence and knowledge, given by Udayachal, Rajnandgaon. He was the recipient of the Award for Distinguished Services in the field of Education, in 2002, given by Sheela Dixit, the then Chief Minister of Delhi. He has been honoured by many awards in recognition and appreciation of his work in the field of education: The Jewel of India, Eminent Educationist, Eminent Citizen, Best Educationist Award, Rajiv Gandhi Excellency Award, Bharat Shiksha Ratna Award, Best Principal Award and Lifetime Achievement Award in November 2015.

Dr Jayant Bahadur Singh wrote many plays as he was keenly interested in theatre. He has acted in Chhattisgarhi films. He played the role of Raja Saheb in Bhola Chhattisgarhiya, released in 2002, and the role of Principal in Raghu Veer released in 2007. He also acted in a yet to be released TV Serial Ek Thane ki Kahaani as a Police Inspector.

From 1975 to 1978, as a student of Digvijay College, Rajnandgaon, he took the initiative to form the Sankalp Sanskritik Samiti, which was involved in staging plays; the Sankalp Film Society which brought and screened films for the public of Rajnandgaon; and the Smarts Cricket Club which organized inter school cricket matches. Dr. J B Singh, an educationist and teacher par excellence was a kind humanitarian, intellectual, divinely blessed with exceptional skills of emotionally powerful leadership qualities and immense spiritual insight. He has left behind a rich legacy which shall always be cherished in the spirit of Royal Kids' Convent, his dream child.
